Brentwood Volleyball Named National Team of the Year by USA Today

The Brentwood volleyball team, winners of eight straight TSSAA state championships, was named the national team of the year on Thursday night during the USA TODAY High School Sports Awards, presented by U.S. Polo Assn.

The award ended a special evening as it was the first national high school sports awards show, which was held virtually on YouTube. The night featured professional athletes as award announcers.

It was a culmination of a three-month awards show process that started locally in Tennessee with the Middle Tennessee Sports Awards presented by Farm Bureau Health Plans followed by a statewide show also presented by Farm Bureau Health Plans.

Brentwood finished 38-3, beating Siegel in the state championship. It marked the 16th and final state title for legendary coach Barbara Campbell, who retired after the season. She had been hospitalized for two weeks after suffering a stroke, but attended the championship match.

The team also featured Alabama signee Shaye Eggleston, who was a nominee for national player of the year. Eggleston was the Middle Tennessee and Tennessee volleyball player of the year.
