Haley Hannah learned how to hold her own on the field at a young age.
She grew up playing sports as "one of the boys" with her older brother Jackson and his friends, battling it out in the backyard and on the school playground.
"He would always have his friends over playing football, and I grew up playing soccer on the playground in elementary school as the only girl out there," Haley said. "We've always been competitive."
The Hannah siblings have come a long way since those early days.
Jackson, a former MBA football star, is now a junior linebacker at Nebraska. Haley, who committed to Kentucky this summer, is about to begin her senior year with Brentwood girls soccer.
Thanks in part to the lessons she took from competing with the boys, Haley is expected to be an intimidating presence for the Lady Bruins again this fall. The 5-foot-11 attacking midfielder enjoyed a breakout season in 2019, scoring 21 goals with three assists.
"Any time she has the ball on her foot in the attacking half, she's going to be a threat (to score)," Brentwood coach Maggie McLaughlin said. "She has always been a threat wherever she is on the field."
