BRENTWOOD – It didn't come right away in the third quarter, but the Brentwood High School girls basketball produced one of their potent offensive bursts out of halftime Tuesday to secure a decisive District 11-AAA win.

The Lady Bruins closed the third quarter on a 13-2 run en route to a 59-31 victory over Franklin. Sydney Ryan scored 19 points and Amelia Osgood added 18 to lead the charge as the No. 5-ranked Brentwood girls swept the season series and won a ninth consecutive game.

"As a team, we think the third quarter is the most important quarter," Ryan said. "That's when we put teams away. I thought we came out and played fantastic defense, we boxed out and we ran the floor. It felt good."

Osgood triggered the third-quarter surge by slipping into the corner for a 3-pointer with 3:05 remaining in the frame for a 36-20 advantage. Franklin had slowed the pace early and stayed within striking distance through the first half.

After trading misses, Chloe Wampler hit another triple for the Lady Bruins and then drilled a second 3-pointer with 1:12 left to make it 44-22. Brentwood closed the frame outscoring the Lady Admirals 18-7.

"We got mixed up on guarding people and the lack of communication got to us there," said Franklin's Kate O'Neil, who finished with 16 points. The senior post did eclipse the 1,000-point plateau in the loss.
