A pair of Williamson County senior basketball players were selected as the first Gateway Tire Athletes of the Week for the New Year.

Brentwood senior Amelia Osgood and Franklin senior Matt Thurman both guided their teams to wins last week and were selected as Gateway Tire Athletes of the Week.

The two were chosen as part of the Athletes of the Week awards sponsored by Gateway Tire & Service Center of Franklin. One male and one female athlete from Williamson County is selected and featured each week in the Williamson Herald.

Osgood capped a busy week at the NXT LVL Hoopsfest at Christ Presbyterian Academy by scoring 22 points in the Lady Bruins 57-54 championship win against Brentwood Academy. She scored 16 points in a 60-39 win over host CPA in the semifinals and netted 21 against Livingston Academy in a 56-42 victory to open the tournament.

The Princeton signee also averaged four rebounds and four assists in the three games 9-of-21 3-pointers.

"Basketball is in her DNA," Brentwood coach Myles Thrash said. "She's our MVP and is always ready to make plays for us."
